Walking with God

Walking with God is what each of us is called to do. It is a great privilege and uncommon honour to walk with the God of the universe.  We didn't just fall from somewhere, we were made, created for a reason and that reason  is for you and I to have a walking relationship with our Maker.

Revelation 4:11  "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."

We were made to give him pleasure. This means our life brings joy and satisfaction to God. Anything less than this is the abuse of creation. When we decide to walk with God, we are DELIBERATELY deciding to use our resources and through our conduct to bring pleasure to him.

Isaiah 43:21 "This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise."

Walking with God means we are fulfilling the purpose for our creation. We do this by showing forth our praise to God. Praise is expressing our respect and gratitude to God especially in song. We recognize that we belong to him and with a heart full of gratitude for all of God's goodness on us, we praise him.

Beyond these, walking with God also involve an agreement with God. You cannot possibly walk harmoniously with one with whom you disagree all the time. Having an agreement would mean having an understanding, trusting each other and refraining from hurting each other's feeling. Specifically, walking with God requires certain responsibilities from each party.

Amos 3:3 "Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?"

The first responsibility for God and man is the decision to move together and to an agreed destination. There is no imposition. Man has the free will to follow God or not. He has a choice in the matter. God has always called man to reason with him and to make the wise decision to follow him. He said we should "come now and let us reason together..." Walking with God is a choice with eternal consequences. Jesus said:

"Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son." John 3:18

Your walk with God starts with believing and accepting the Lordship of Jesus over your life.

Deuteronomy 8:6 “Observe the commands of the LORD your God by walking in his ways and by fearing him.”

Walking with God means you fear him. This fear helps you to revere God and to look to Him in adoration and reverence. In addition, you are careful with the word of God. You do your best not to toy with it. You are eager to obey it. You ensure that your words and daily conduct aligns with it.

Micah 6:8 "He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?"

A man that walks with God must be humble because God opposes the proud. James 4:6 ... That is why Scripture says: "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble." Humility in character, in relationship and in success is highly expected from those who walk with God. God won't walk with you in your proud state. Repent and start to wear humility as garment.

Genesis 5:24 "Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away."

This is the essence of walking with God. Enoch went to heaven because he walked faithfully with God. In his days, he stood alone in his fellowship with God. Others didn't join him to serve the Lord. Enoch was a rear type walking with God when others walked with idols: walking straight when others have perverted their ways.

Walking with God is what all men must do. Walking to God through Jesus is the path that God himself had designed.

John 14:6 "Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Won't you rather give your heart to Jesus today? It's in your best interest.
